17 Chinese-American Students Shared a Total of $20,000 in Scholarships
On June 2, 2024, the National Chinese Business Association and International Education Charitable Foundation (IECF) presented scholarships to the winning students who received the 2024 Merit Scholarships in New York.
A total of 17 recipients were selected for this year’s scholarship program from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and California. 17college students covered 17 different colleges and high schools in the countries including Princeton University, Columbia University, Yale University, Boston College, Rutgers University, City University of New York, and Stony Brook University; and 6 additional high school recipients came from schools including Stevenson High School, Brooklyn Tech High
School, Bronx High School Science, Townsend Harris high school, Manhattan Hunter Science High School. Prizes ranged from $1,000-$2,000 for each winning student.
Denise (Xinyao Peng), a junior at Yale University majoring in Molecular, Celluar, and Development Biology, spoke on behalf of all the scholarship recipients at the ceremony, thanking the organizers for their encouragement and support, and saying that, for her personally, the award money has allowed her to realize her dream of participating in the research program she has long desired, and has allowed her to participate in the research program she has always wanted to do.
She also expressed that for her personally, the award allows her to realize her dream of participating in the research project she has long wanted to do, and allows her to focus more on her studies and the project.
Jennifer Wang (Wei Wang), a Senior computer science major at Columbia University, has received the scholarship for two consecutive years and is very grateful for the opportunity to complete some of her favorite projects. She said she was very grateful for the opportunity to complete some of her favorite projects, especially since the scholarship was doubled this year, which was a great surprise to her.
In attendance at the ceremony were a number of board members of IECF, several charitable donors, and more than 30 representatives of the award-winning students and their parents. For those who were unable to attend the awards ceremony, the organizer sent the certificates and prizes directly to the winners.
Ms. Elizabeth Chen, President of NCAA and IECF, was deeply proud of the fact that IECF has been operating well into its seventh year and has helped more than 100 students to continue their education.
Liz was excited to say that since the convening of the IECF at the end of 2017, the program has gathered a group of Chinese and American entrepreneurs and philanthropists, and has consistently organized the Merit Student Scholarship Program over the years to provide assistance to outstanding students, especially those in need. She also hopes that more caring people will join her to continue this program for a long time to help more needy students, and also hopes that these students will not only better themselves, but also try to give back to the society.
Liz also shared her own entrepreneurial journey with the students and parents, encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
As the chairman of the U.S. Cheng Yi Investment Group, Liz Chen has been running a business for many years, and the enterprise is a cross-regional modernized investment group integrating industrial manufacturing, real estate development, culture and tourism, health industry, financial investment and petroleum marketing.
The U.S. Cheng Yi Investment Group was founded in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, China, and is currently headquartered in Great Neck, New York, with several projects underway in New York and China.
She expressed her willingness to make more contributions to the society and the community next year, and to be able to provide more scholarships to more students next year.
